NCJAR News
Today, on World Suicide Prevention Day, North Central Jersey Association of REALTORS® (NCJAR) joins millions worldwide to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and suicide prevention. This day is a powerful reminder that every life matters, and each of us has a role in creating a supportive community where people feel seen, heard, and valued.
Understanding the Importance of World Suicide Prevention Day
World Suicide Prevention Day, observed on September 10th each year, is dedicated to promoting awareness about suicide prevention. It is an opportunity to educate and engage communities in addressing the complex challenges surrounding mental health. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 700,000 people die by suicide each year, making it a significant public health concern that affects individuals, families, and communities globally.
The REALTOR® Community’s Role in Mental Health Advocacy
As REALTORS®, we often find ourselves at the heart of communities, fostering connections and helping families find places they can call home. This unique position allows us to be not just professionals but also trusted confidants and supporters during some of the most stressful times in people’s lives. Whether it's navigating a challenging market, dealing with the emotional process of buying or selling a home, or simply managing the daily pressures of life, our clients and colleagues look to us for guidance and support.
It's crucial to recognize the signs of distress—not only in our clients but also within our own lives and our colleagues. Stress, anxiety, and burnout can take a heavy toll on mental health, especially in a high-stakes industry like real estate. By fostering a supportive environment, promoting open dialogue about mental health, and encouraging one another to seek help when needed, we can make a difference.
How to Make a Difference
At NCJAR, we’re excited to bring you the latest addition to NAR’s “Consumer Guide” series: “What Veterans Need to Know About Buying a Home.” This valuable resource is designed to provide REALTORS® with the tools and information needed to assist veteran buyers in their journey toward homeownership.
The guide not only outlines the various financing options available to veterans but also highlights the ongoing efforts NAR is making to promote accessible and affordable homeownership for this important group. As REALTORS®, your role is key in helping veterans understand their options and ensuring a smooth, informed buying process.
These guides are perfect for sharing directly with buyers who have questions about the homebuying process. They are part of NAR’s broader initiative to provide clarity around recent practice changes and reinforce the value of working with a REALTOR®.

As we approach Hispanic Heritage Month 2025, it's an opportune moment for NCJAR to reflect on the significance of this celebration and its relevance to our industry. From September 15th to October 15th, Hispanic Heritage Month honors the rich cultural contributions and history of the Hispanic and Latino communities in the United States. This celebration is more than just a recognition of the past; it's a chance to look forward and embrace the diversity that strengthens our communities and, by extension, our real estate market.
The Growing Influence of the Hispanic Community
The Hispanic population in the United States is one of the fastest-growing demographics, with New Jersey reflecting this national trend. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Hispanics make up nearly 20% of New Jersey's population. This growth is not just a statistic; it represents a significant shift in the real estate market. Hispanic homeownership rates are on the rise, with many families aspiring to achieve the American Dream of owning a home.
